I thought the EM5 and the GH3 had the same Sony made sensor?

if they do (i'm no sensor expert) they surely have different processing that makes a huge difference with hot pixels. just to prevent any misunterstandings: i'm talking of hot pixels when long exposure NR is turned OFF. the EM5 has a few very pronounced hot pixels, often heavily saturated in red, green and blue. they are quite easy to remove in PP, if needed. the GH3 on the other hand has many, many, many hot pixels. they aren't as prominent as those of the EM5 but they really appear in large numbers. problem is, when combining multiple images when doing startrail photography the GH3's hotpixels get accentuated and can almost ruin a shot. no way you can clone them all out. the output of the EM5 is certainly better suited for this kind of photography. other than that i don't see much of a difference between the two in terms of IQ - at least when shooting RAW.

to be fair, the GH3 is great in cold temperatures: virtually no hot pixels below say 0°C. i'm pretty confident that the longest available shutter speed of 60s could be used (usually shoot with shutter speeds around 20-30s).
