That's how I ended up using it -- I had to use TAv a lot of the time, because the range of acceptable apertures and shutter speeds was so narrow.  Or, I found I could get it to behave pretty well using Sv mode.  I used Sv a lot with the 55-300 on the K10D -- it's less necessary on the K-3.
