Selling their sensors- bad decision by Sony?

Curious what you guys think, in light of Panasonic using Sony's 1" sensor in their FZ1000 and now, it appears in their upcoming LX8.  For me, it seems like it is a short sighted decision, getting some revenue but ultimately causing them to lose their stranglehold on this section of the market.  Panasonic looks like it is moving in aggressively on price and features where Sony seems to want to be able to charge a premium for their premium products.

Do you think it was a good idea for Sony to sell their sensor to other manufacturers?
