Really?

Yep, they even warn that a 3rd party charger is needed

The reason being that genuine E-M5/E-M1/E-P5 batteries use later technology and charge to a cutoff of 8.7 volts, all the rest of the Olys and clones and most other 2 cell batteries charge to the usual 8.4 volts.

I can confirm the batteries (at least the EVO brand) will charge in the OLY chargers. Ive not noticed any overheating. I do think they dont have as much power (longevity) compared to a factory battery. But I mainly acquired the battery to have be able to use the accompanying small wall charger as opposed to the monstrous wire bundle that came with the factory charge.

But later, reading someone else's complaint about the bulky cord, a poster mentioned that you could simply get a 90 degree adapter and plug it right into the OLY charger! Problem solved for under $6. If anyone is interested, I bought it from Amazon and it had the description: "SF Cable, 2 Prong Right Angle Plug Adapter, USA IEC 60320-C7 receptacle to NEMA 1-15P"

I haven't used the 3rd party charger since...
