And Olympus has only provided the the work-around to models that are still in-market. The older E-M5, despite being the big breakout hit for Olympus, is not getting a fix because it's being taken off the market soon and they want you to upgrade to an E-M1 so they make more money. (The fact that the E-P5 got the fix indicates that Olympus thinks that the E-P5 is the premier PEN model for at least the next year.)

totally agree..they just want to milk the market.

Maybe you are right and it is a marketing thing. What puzzles me is that some people are so 100% sure that it is marketing only.

You should know that the shutter has to do some complicated things for electronic first curtain. From the specs and from the shutter sound it is obvious to everyone that EM5 and P5/EM1 have very different shutters.

And they also don't share the chip. EM5 has a Sony sensor while EM1 is reported to have a Panasonic sensor again. What if the Sony Sensor can not do electronic first curtain with the same speed as EM5's shutter?

I don't know, and 99,99% percent of people here don't know. Only some Panasonic and Olympus technicians reading here (if there are any here) could know it. But they for sure would not tell it ...
