Should I upgrade from NX1000 to NX300 - your thoughts, please
Jun 26, 2014
Recently I had a chance to play with Sony Alpha NEX-6 and I fell in love with its click-snap behaviour - much improvement over the click-1...-2...-snap I got used to when using my NX1000.
I actually very much like the build quality, IQ and look&feel of my NX1000. The only thing which puts me away and which I hope to improve by upgrading is this annoying shutter lag. I missed so many opportunities because of it that I'm looking for a replacement. I would like to stay with the rangefinder-like body, thus DSLR-like bodies are out of question (Though using EVF on NEX-6 was also an interesting experience... It helped me to focus more on composition, however flickering - which is something I'm very sensitive to - annoyed and distracted me greatly, effectively ruining the experience.).
Price of the NX300 + 18-55mm kit is quickly approaching 1600 PLN (300 GBP / 380 EUR) here in Poland, thus it seems to be an interesting option for me. Sadly there is no body only option, apart from an eBay deal from a German seller, which may cause headache should I need to repair the new camera under warranty...
Snapsort told me that NX300 has significantly less shutter lag than NX1000 (116ms vs. 598ms, NEX-6 has 257ms). Having read the reviews, I also hope that faster AF and slightly better write speeds will give me even more pronounced click-snap feel which I'm looking after.
My questions are:
- Is NX300 the right choice for me? I hope for significantly less shutter lag and more speed overall (I expect no miracles when saving JPEG+RAW.).
- Is it the right time to upgrade - do you expect NX300 price to fall more in the next few months?
- I don't want to keep NX1000 in a drawer. Should I sell it with 18-55mm or rather 20-50mm which came with it? I'd prefer the more compact lens, however 18-55mm is not a monster given that it has OIS.
- Will I be able to use my spare NX1000 batteries (BP1030 replacements) with NX300? Will I be able to charge them in-camera?
