Re: Oly 25mm F1.8 / Oly 12-40?
I have an E-M5 and I think I might respond differently with the E-M1, so... I think the 12-40 is a terrific lens. It gives up nothing in terms of optical quality. I think it handles much better with the horizontal grip. The only real advantages of primes are smaller size, lighter weight, and faster maximum apertures. With an E-M1, I think the advantages of smaller size and lighter weight are probably attenuated. I often put a prime, most often the 17, on and remove the grip. And in some situations I either remove the lens hood or just put a screw on collapsable rubber hood. Set up that way the camera becomes pretty small, light, and it's not intrusive. Folks hardly notice it. I also have the PL25 and use it less often simply because I seem to prefer the 17mm focal length. I also find it interesting to just go out with one prime and try to see what I can do with it. OTOH, if I'm really wanting to record some event or some location, the zoom is much more flexible. I do think it's useful for many folks to have at least one fast aperture normalish focal length prime but the 12-40 makes them pretty redundant.
