It's easier to hold a larger heavier body steady when pressing the shutter compared to a small light body. At least that's my experience.

This is true and is based on physics. The more inertia an object has, the less it is affected by other movements, including shutter shock/mirror slap, hand shake, wind, ect. Heavy means more stable. Also, contrary to popular opinion, holding a camera tighter can reduce vibrations. Of course you will also want to make sure you are not introducing shakyness by doing so from squeezing, but a tighter grip affectively increases the objects mass. Plus, IBIS can handle hand shake, it can't handle shutter shock. It may be effective, if you have a good IBIS system, to grip tight to reduce shock.

That is pretty much my experience. I tried my 40-150mm on a tripod at 150mm, no or very very little blurriness. I tried it later at 50mm hand held and the pictures were horrible. I had double images. After supper I went back and tried again at 50mm and concentrated on holding the camera steady, took a breath and automagically the pictures came out nice and clear. There are so many variables attached to this issue it's hard to sort out cause and effect.

Do you ever use the 1/8 sec "anti-shock" setting on your cameras?
