Re: "Hit rate 20%" huh?

I think the shutter shock was a huge part of the equation. I tried to capture 4-5 images in a row for each scene, and consistently in 2-3 of them you could see shutter shock effects. Again, once the camera hits the image right, it's fantastic. It was more frustrating to see the good images coming out of this little camera, and knowing that it IS capable of getting them... yet it doesn't most of the time ;-(

I went out several days, and compared my old GF1 with the e-PM2, using the same lenses, back-to-back. None of my GF1 images were blurry (granted the e-PM2 has much higher resolution), yet MOST of my e-PM2 images were blurry ;-( The Dynamic range of the new sensor is amazing, and as I said once the camera hits the scene right, the images are MUCH better than the GF1.

For a casual / family user the e-PM2 kit is a FANTASTIC buy at $200. But, I already had that, and wanted the new camera for the sensor, and detail/landscape work. Shutter shock takes out a lot of the detail, and basically turns it into a 6-8MP camera, with great Dynamic Range, and fantastic high ISO capability.

e-PM2's pros:

  • Fantastic Dynamic Range
  • high ISO / low light capabilities
  • Small
  • Nice kit lens

e-PM2's cons:

  • Shutter shock even with IS turned off, and 1/8s delay
  • Small LCD (in practice it's about a 2 inch screen for 4/3 ratio image)
  • external flash
  • Tight mount (one of my lenses would not mount on the camera)
