I've had 1 third party lens and 3 Canon (OEM) hoods. The fog of the OEM hoods is better, the 3rd party wasn't bad, but it wasn't quite as precise. Also, Canon hoods have a felt lining which will absorb additional stray light.

My experience with 3rd party hoods is limited and while I see nothing wrong with them as an option (especially for the $ difference), I prefer the OEM hoods for their flawless fit and felt lining. In fact, just yesterday I ordered the OEM hood for my wife's 50/1.4.
