Hello everyone.

I am currently a working as a 2nd shooter (and sometimes as 1st) for Wedding/Corporate event gigs.

I currently am invested in Nikon gear (D800E, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, etc) but I also own a Sony A7r. I only use a Leica 50mm summicron on my A7r so I have no experience with how it autofocuses. When I am shooting I normally carry my A7r w/ Leica 50mm on one shoulder and my D800e on the other with a 70-200mm, this usually covers what I need unless I need a wide shot.

All the best,

You might consider buying the newer Nikon 24-120mm VR F4. Much lighter than Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 (which I have). I usually switch to the Nikon 24-120mm VR at reception for much lighter weight and smaller size, and use my heavy 24-70mm for best glass quality at portraits at brides house and park portrait session.

The new Nikon 24-120mm VR F4 is gold standard and also offers great image quality to make the Nikon lighter. Sell off the 70-200mm f2.8 as it is heavy. Perhaps consider the lighter 70-200mm F4 at half the weight. I am considering this one. Some people use the new Nikon 24-120mm f4 as main lens instead of heavy 24-70mm. Add a 50mm F1.8/f1.4 or 85mm f1.8 when you want extra smooth bokeh.

The Sony is great as a second camera and fast in good light (but may not be a fast action camera in dim light), but I think the Nikon will focus faster in difficult lighting where capturing fast action is critical.

Maybe a lighter body like Nikon D610 or the upcoming D810 (lighter than D800) might be a consideration to switch from the D800e you have now, if you decide to sell of D800e.

Some pros I have read use 2 bodies of D610 with different zooms or primes for lighter weight all day.

I know I am in a Sony forum. (Sorry, Sony guys, this is my opinion.) Or maybe buy a FF DSLR from Sony such as A99 body, or if they make another upgrade in DSLR. A99 can still be bought.
