I always wondered why high-end "plastic" cameras are viewed as lower quality than metal can bodies. I don't think people appreciate the technology that goes into the modern camera body that allow it to absorb shocks and take bumps with nary a scratch.

The very best bulletproof vests are lined with aramid plastic fibers, while the older and heavier metal ones are outdated. That should tell something about how good a plastic camera body could be.
