Birdbath fun and a question.

Hey folks. It was 93 degrees here today (yuck.) I took it upon myself to fill the birdbath in my tiny shared backyard with cold water, and it didn't take long to get some visitors that were grateful for a way to cool off.

'So hot that it's panting' song sparrow

Common grackle

Mourning dove (same bird in the shots below)

My question is for those of you who have done this before, what shutterspeed is generally required to perfectly freeze the drops of water coming off of a splashing bird? I think these photos aren't bad for a first try, but I also think there is room for improvement on the water drops, even if I have to go up to ISO200 and try 1/1600 or 1/2000. Thanks.
