Hi all,

This is the first professional review I found the Olympus sp-100ee , I have been looking for one for awhile see link:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2459116,00.asp

Here in New Zealand at Photo Warehouse the Stylus 1 lists at NZ$ 879.-, the SH-1 (24x zoom pocket P&S with WiFi and simultaneous stills and video) at NZ$ 548.-, and the SP-100EE at NZ$ 498.-. I do feel that the SP-100EE has the right cost-benefit ratio.

On the SP-100EE, being able to lock the AF is a must for moon eclipses. The red dot sight appeals for moon shots as well as for Birds In Flight.

In my perception, fast focus is more important than a higher resolution LCD and WiFi (I cancelled Facebook when they took away my copy right). In my experience, fast focus also means more reliable focus. The reviewer says nothing about the IS, which appears to be in the lens, the next best to 5-axis IS on the sensor.

I used my X-S1 today and the focusing is slow compared to my SP-100. Also the X-S1 miss focusses more often.

'Waxy' images is not exactly a technical description, not even one which an artist might use. Does it mean that the SP-100EE smudges small detail? or that the saturation is too high? or that highlights flare easily?

You could call it waxy. I call it Mushy. I tend to ignore it, and for the most part you don't see it unless of course you zoom in on the PC. If you can't live with it then it's perhaps not the camera for you. I like using the camera and it just gets on with the job.
