Bad light leak with Novoflex R adapter

I hadn't seen this for my first couple months usage.  But I was just in Iceland photographing waterfalls with ND filters.  Even a half second exposure revealed a terrible light leak.  I'm tired right now, jet lag.  But I can post images of this if interested.  The leak only occurred when the sun was shining no the adapter coupling to the lens.  At first I dealt with this by shading the coupling area with my hand.  Finally, I put a wide rubber band at the juncture, which had fixed this problem for now.  However, my A7r and the very dear Leica 28-90mm R lens look pretty silly with this rubber band.

Will Novoflex take care of this?  I bought the adapter new from a USA dealer several months ago.  It was a rather obscure dealer to me, but the only one with this adapter in stock.

Any other suggestions?  Is this a common problem?
