The ruby patch depends not only on sun position, but also of the angle of the feathers on the bird's throat. They can flash the color on and off depending on their mood, I guess.   Here's an example of a hummer (whose name I can't remember) warning off a competitor from the feeder.

Hummers are very territorial!

One suggestion I would have, beyond what the others have offered, is that a shutter speed of 1/320 isn't really fast enough. Unless, of course, you were trying to show the motion blur.   So for next time, I'd suggest cranking the ISO up so you can get a faster shutter speed.

Just for comparison, here is a very similar shot of a Green Crowned Briliant in Costa Rica. It was with the E-30 + 50-200 SWD at 1/1600 sec and ISO 800. There is still some blur in the wings, but the bird's body is fairly sharp (not perfect, though).
