Thanks for the heads-up about alternatives should the SDM drive fail, but the statement "once your SDM fails, which is inevitable" is unfortunate, as it is simply not true.

My experience is different.

There are threads all over the place discussing the failures.

There are articles on how to repair the failures.

There are Pentax responses regarding the failures.

There are lenses on eBay that had failures.

There are people who report their SDM is starting to squeak.

There are people who report their lens needs to 'warm up' a bit before it moves properly.

The patent documents describe the failure.

I've not seen similar from other lens manufacturers except for the Canon S2IS which seemed to have some USM failures.

NOW FOR THE REAL IRONY: My lens did not fail. I bought it already converted to screwdrive. It failed on somebody else who must have had it converted. They were probably disappointed. I was happy with the screwdrive and posted the video so others could see it in action.

So fair to say though you say "once your SDM fails, which is inevitable"

And go on to say "My experience is different."

You have no first hand knowledge or experience of any SDM lens failure ?

PS I wrote one of the articles on how to fix SDM failure !
