Sigala, doesn't realize, of course, that this is Victoria market…

…named for a Queen and Empress, in that queen of cities, Melbourne, in the state of Victoria, named for said Queen and Empress.

Of course there is fringing of the royal color -- what do you expect with so much queen and empress stuff going on?

To suggest there is purple fringing everywhere is hyperbole, but you will always get it in such areas as the bare tree branches against the blue sky with this little Panny lens (or even big Panny lenses) and the Oly body. You can fix this in PP or minimize it by using an excellent Panny body which will fix it in camera or you can do what I have done -- switch to the Panny body (G6 in my case) and flee to a place where there are no autumn/winter trees, e.g. the wet tropics! (Okay, okay, you still get purple fringing around coconut fronds against the sky. But at least you aren't cold!)

Did I see that Oly is now correcting purple fringing in its latest cameras?

I used the Panny 14 on my E-PM1 and E-PL3 as my standard walk around lens (with the Oly 40-150 in my pocket) for a year and a half with excellent results. I corrected the purple fringing in Photoline and/or PTLens in those photos where it was obvious and ignored it in most cases. Correcting it look a moment.

Very lightweight, compact kit.

In fact, though, the standard 14-42 II R is not much heavier, the IQ at 14 is as good as the Pamny 14, and it is more versatile. It is a little bulkier, of course, and if you have the sun in the frame, it delivers a splodge while the Panny delivers a nice image that actually looks like the sun.

The other thing I noticed, Sylon, is foreground. It needs to be filled! it needs to have interest! In a couple of the pix here, the foreground is simply empty. Crop! Or better -- become more conscious of it and compose to fill it like you did with your first shot.

Cheers, geoff
