Thank you all for the timely and well thought out advice.

Understanding I'm in no way going to emulate the 800e with a compact camera, no more than I'm going to lug same around the world, I'm leaning toward the Sony RX100 M2 as the best compromise.

One poster said, in so many words, "it's not the arrows, it's the Indian." Henri Cartier Bresson comes to mind, what with his diminutive Leica, flitting about amongst crowds "capturing decisive moments." He was doing that whilst Ansel was lugging around his massive camera and that 30-pound wooden tripod he used. Both equally famous for their legacies, accomplishing their missions with their minds, not necessarily their gear.

Lo, I'm pretend to be neither, but looking forward to exploring new places utilizing a different format/tool.
