Wired remote assistance

So I bought a Chinese wired remote for my nex 6 that was supposed to work with nex cameras and it doesn't so I'm trying to hack it to get it to work.

It has three cables in the remote:
Green (top -focus)
Blue (middle -ground)
Red (bottom -shutter)

The micro USB connector of the remote does not look like a standard micro USB connector and it's too long for the nex 6. So I am trying to connect the remote to the standard micro USB cable.

The micro USB cable has red, green, white, black and some wire outside that bundle of 4.

I read that outside wire is ground so I tried that and hooking green-green and red-red but no dice.

Is this possible to make work or do I need a multi-terminal cable?
