But a 10-24mm f4 isn't a 15-35mm f6. The light gathering properties are still f/4.

As for your comment "That is why many people using such lenses on APS cameras are having a hard time throwing the background out of focus". I have no problem throwing the background out of focus with a Canon APS-C body with 24mm 1.4 and 50mm 1.2 lenses, or even a 70-200. If anything with the primes I have to stop them down to prevent parts of the photo being out of focus due to too shallow DOF. Maybe you'd be better off getting closer to your subjects if your aim is shallow DOF.
