Yes, the price/performance is what has a lot of folks excited about the lens.

I think contrast might be a bit low, and my problem is I get so close to the birds I often don't have enough DOF.I think it is silly that in other parts of this forum, people are doing tests against the 135 Zeiss and the Nikon 200 F2.. I'd really like to get my hands on a 80-400 AF-S VR to do some tests since that would be a much better comparison..

I agree. I don't see the point in comparing a $1k zoom to an exotic prime costing many thousands. Like you, I think the lens would be better compared against the 80-400 and Bigma.

Hopefully, the Tammy will turn out to be a real winner.
