Down year for cameras affecting rate of product release?

The cameras are going to release fewer models per year because the buying public needs fewer models per year.  An old camera is good for more years now, and that's a major reason sales are down.  In the film era it was common for a model to go many years with no update, and the digital camera world is going to have to come back to that.  The rapid update cycle of the last decade was temporary and will not be sustainable for the long haul.
