I have a 100-300 and I just ordered a 50-200 Mk I (KEH) and a cheap EC14 (EBay). I seem to remember finding several similar comparisons on the web that reached different conclusions.

I'm not wildly thrilled with the 100-300 at full zoom so this could be disappointing (if true).

You will not be disappointed.  However, be sure to check to see if the combination is front or back focusing.  I think that at least some of the problems people have with the EC14+50-200 is that they fail to check this and adjust if necessary.  My EC14+50-200 needed an adjustment (-8) on my E5, but none on my E-M1.  However, my EC14+70-300 needed no adjustment on my E5, but an adjustment on my E-M1.  Since the mFT lenses are CDAF, they always focus correctly.  Given the very shallow depth of field on these lenses, checking the focus accuracy is critical if you want the best performance with the PDAF focusing lenses.
