Beware! TCON-17 may infringe on rear filter

Thanks Shudder, I think I might go for it now... can't wait
Dave
Well.I just saw the other threads regarding vignetting and it does
appear quite evident, now I am back at the decision, What to do, I
would really like a telephoto lens as I sail a lot and the
shoreline is a good distance away, any suggestions would be
helpful...
Dave --

Please realize the vignetting prob is only a prob if you stuff
filters on top of the 55mm adapter tube. There is no -- repeat NO
-- vignetting prob with just the TCON attached to the end of the
tube (when used at full tele, which is the intent of the lens).

I think you will be very happy with this lens.

best,
shudder

There is NO vignetting evident when the tele is place in front of a
single filter. I.e.

602 Lense---filter----tcon17

the problem is when you put 2 or more filters in between... like
shudder and I do.

602 Lense----UVfilter---Polarizer----tcon17

We are just lazy and don't want to take off the UV and swap it for
the Polarizer so we stack it.... but that's easily overcome.

For those of you who have a TCON-17, assembling a screw on 55mm
filter (such as a UV or polarizer) may infringe on the rear lens
assembly (ouch!).

Please do check when adding filters between 55mm/55mm extension
tube and that of the TCON-17, it can be done without impacting on
the lens.

You can easily test if you have a potential problem by inserting a
lens cleaning tissue (or thin piece of paper) between the filter
and lens. If on assembly of the lens and filter the tissue/paper
can be seen to move freely, then you have no problem. Otherwise,
like myself, an alternative solution will need to be considered
such as using a filter ring (with no glass) as a spacer.

I am confused. Why do you leave the skylight filter on I was always taught you NEVER use more than 1 filter or attachment on a lens unless absolutely needed to get the photo due to increased and unnecessary degradation of the photo (lens flare increases, reflections increase and son on). Additionally the possibility of vignetting increases the further the add on lens is from the camera lens. So, any way yo look at it you loose with the unneeded filter.

On situation where yo would use more than 1 filter is lets say you wanted a graduated netrual density filter (half dark half light) and wanted a polarizing filter or a polizier on the far end of the add on lens.

allow for filters on the end of them, rather than on the adapter tube?
