I have both models and I wouldn't say you have to go through the menu on the E-PM2, either.  Both have the Super Control Panel and though the E-PM2 lacks a mode dial, it's very easy to change mode as you just touch the mode indication in the corner of the screen to change it.  However, the lack of a mode dial does mean it cannot offer the useful feature of being able to place custom Mysets onto the positions of the mode dial, if required.  And as you mentioned, it's lacking the E-PL5's tilt screen.
