We also strictly edit the 1000's of photos from our annual selfdrive safaris in Africa. We also retain substandard shots if they will bring back beautiful memories of events we experienced. Another small group of survivors are those which we hope will be useful reminders of errors we made e.g. too long a burst when following a cheetah chasing his prey & thus missing the decisive moment.

Lastly when we have "repetitive" shots in especially portraitsI select the one or two which have most action e.g. the "chosen walk by lion" is the one with the front leg in the air, eyes open, & tail swinging to the near side.

I must admit I also find it difficult at times & have spent many many hours selecting the 180 photos (so far) from our 4 month Aug- Dec 2013 trip to Kruger, Hwange, Chobe Caprivi, Etosha, & Kgalagadi http://www.africaraw.com/WildlifePhotography/2013-photographic-safari/35535509_FfwdJN#!i=2983634310&k=HSTv6kd
