Great Blue Herons on the Potomac River at Great Falls, VA.

Most of these were shot with a Nikon D4 and either the 200-400 or the 500 mm lenses.  The shot of the GBH eating a crawfish is full frame.  I've found that these guys are so focused when they are fishing that you can get very close to them.  I need to get out there again to update my GBH shots and try out the D4s.

This shot shows a GBH in its breeding colors.

Full frame with the 200-400 mm along the canal path at Great Falls.

Don't see them getting this size fish that often.

Very prehistoric looking birds.

Fish, crawfish, and snakes all seem to be on their diet.

I'm surprised at how many shots I have of birds taking care of business like this!  Also, makes me look overhead more often.
