Re: Minolta Telephoto Converter ACT-100 instruction??

Just screw it on the front of the lens and use it.

It vignettes heavily below a certain focal length. It is designed to be used at a focal length between 180 and 200mm equiv. This is anyhow the idea, since zooming is not advisable due to the weight of the ACT-100.

There is an entry in the menu that enables you to indicate that the ACT-100 is used. If you set this option and enable the macro switch on the lens, the focal length indication in the EXIF is corrected (multiplied by 1.5). There are some claims that the anti-shake is also adapted for the longer focal length, but no real evidence for this exists. The macro switch also locks the lens for zooming to prevent damage, which is IMHO the most important function of using the macro switch in combination with the teleconvertor option in the menu.

I have used the ACT-100 a lot in the past, both without and with setting the teleconvertor option in the menu / enabling the macro switch for locking. I noted no difference in pictures, apart from the EXIF focal length information.
