If I was to add the Nikon grip to my D800, it would also require a new camera bag and this would change my style of shooting, how I currently carry my gear and other things, I'm just not willing to convert at this time.

Not to mention different batteries and an expensive new charger for them as well.

I use the same batteries in my d800e grip, no need for any additional ones - you have got the wrong idea from somewhere, also it doesn't change anything in the way you shoot, just makes holding the camera easier

When I read this, I must have misunderstood the meaning?

  • Item Includes: MS-D12EN for EN-EL15 or EN-EL18 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery (battery sold separately) and MS-D12 holder for 8 AA batteries (1.5V LR-6 Alkaline, FR6 Lithium, HR6 Ni-MH and ZR6 Ni-Mn; batteries not included)

Chas

Essentially yes, you have

The batteries listed - other than EN-EL15 are options that give you more flexibility when using the Nikon grip - that doesn't mean you have to use anything other than the standard battery.

I leave one in the camera and one in the grip with the camera set to use the battery in the grip first.
