Why do we say "shoot" with a camera?

Simple question really that has often bugged me and that is why do we say "shoot" with a camera, I shoot a rifle, shoot a gun, shoot a pistol but they all have two things in common one of which is a bullet and the other is that they invariably kill people.

Now I am not aware of anyone being killed by a camera, not have I seen any bullets coming out of a lens so why do we say this?

Silly question, I know
