This is a good analogy of our notification system. Are your emails ordered by date received latest first on the top or a different way?

Most email clients on their default view will list the second email on top of the first, not the other way around.

If you use Outlook, there's a conversation view that works almost exactly like our notification system. It groups emails from the same thread/conversation into one group and lists the thread with the most recent update first. If you open/expand the group, the earliest unread email will be shown.

Then I can just look at my "Recent Forum activity" list to see which topics are active, the way I have always done...

Recent Forum Activity is still here and has not been changed.
