I have never shot with the Nikon 24-70 but my most recent lens purchase was the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC which I use with my D7000. I had to return my first copy because it was very soft across the whole image. The second copy is fantastic! One of my best photography investments ever.

Sharp, excellent focus, and great color rendition. It is thick and heavy but is a perfect match for my gripped D7000. I can see how it would be huge on a smaller body without a grip.

I am really happy I picked it up.

I just got my replacement lens from Tamron this copy is so much better than my first copy of the 24-70, I find it is very sharp and great image quality on my D600 and also a great focal range on my D7100. My favourite lens by far now.

Very nice to hear. This looks like to be the kind of lens that is very much bang for buck

Tamron is pushing strong.. it's only recently that sigma has started to get a little bit more interesting too. Overtime, the third party will be available to provide nice lenses to rival the nikon lenses. If only we could get some fixed tele lens from tokina..
