This is a great all-rounder. The OOC Jpegs are nice and you can tweak the noise reduction, sharpness and other settings if you want. The best feature is the click wheel around the lens. In Aperture Priority mode it is used to adjust the aperture. If you flick the switch on the front it can then be used for manual focus. It then moves freely with no clicks and works perfectly for focus. I use the manual focus for video as this provides a solution to the camera's only serious flaw: the annoying sound of the autofocus motor during video. It's a little bulky for a compact, but that's due mainly to the articulating LCD screen. I don't mind because it's helpful when taking macro shots. Like others have said, the Olympus menu system takes a bit of getting used to, but it does allow a high degree of customization.
A "great all-rounder" is a good way to summarize the XZ-2. Once you have set up the SCP (Super Control Panel), you can change just about any setting with the touch screen. The two Fn buttons and switch near the lens makes it the best handling P&S ever made, IMHO. It is definitely the best P&S I have ever used and that includes IQ. How would you rate the XZ-2 vs you Nikon v1 regarding IQ?
