I think there are two things going on here.

1. When a new and worthwhile technology is released we all ooh and ahh - Fuji X100, Fuji X Trans for example.

After that we look for more big jumps in IQ and usually they don't happen.

The manufacturers tweaks in later versions and often what they gain in one thing they lose in another.

You pretty much said it all here Sonyshine.

The reality is that no one is bashing a XE2 or XT1 here, they are great cameras. This is not about your camera is better than mine. But what gets me is that, when the manufacturer improves something they usually do sacrifice something else, that might be very important as well.

I got slammed by many nikon members many times because they take things too personal about a their piece of machine called a "camera", and they did not like to hear that "skin tone" difference thing and they would claim that the new cameras look perfectly fine. Well, they don't, but thankfully a few other DO also see the difference from new to older bodies, because there is a difference, not in ISO or higher dynamic range, or resolution, but pure image quality alone.

The thing is that it is BEAUTIFUL when the manufacturer improves something, we all get excited including myself of course, but it would be nice, like many others have said here already, "why fix what's not broken". It would be nice to see that the camera maker does make an improvement ALL THE WAY. If the newer cameras have 14 bit with better dynamic range, then great! Fantastic! But don't screw up the rest please.

Like i said in one of my comments to Chris, Fuji's image quality is NOT bad even in the newer cameras, Fuji has only made certain changes that is not very pleasing to many here, for the way some of us like to shoot. I certainly am not and have not said that Fuji's new cameras image quality is BAD. And no, i do not own and have never used the newer bodies, but we are not stupid and we are smart enough to know and SEE what is going on. I hate that dumb famous question "well do you own those cameras??".

Everyone is in tittle of their opinion, definitely, and i totally respect that. If someone does not like what i have to say, then that is fine, i don't get upset. I certainly am not going to ask for the MOD to lock the thread. Is always good to know what others are thinking.

That's about it men. Peace!

If you prefer to judge cameras by never owning or using them that's fair enough. Just don't expect your opinions to be held in high regard on a camera gear forum.

Cheers.

And so when did you purchase your first generation x trans and is it the x-pro1 or the x-e1 ?

Thanks

Trudy

It was the X-E1 (used), but after a week I decided against buying it as prices are still dropping. Now that the X-E2 has been updated to the focus peaking and EVF refresh rate of the X-T1 I didn't enjoy the handling and slower AF of the older camera.

Sal

Thank you for your reply Sal. I have read a number of places you arguing with people because they were not happy with the IQ from their x-e2. In the one above you said his opinions are not held in high regards because he does not own one.

But in this thread about first generation x trans IQ which you have made many comments in, you do not even own a first generation x trans camera yourself.

Trudy

Trudy, I have only responded to posts saying the X-E2 has poor overall image quality compared to the the X-E1, not just jpeg.  I also said if someone reviews a camera's performance without ever owning or "using" the camera, their opinion would probably not be held in high regard compared to an actual user review.

As I responded above, I have used the X-E1 and I also downloaded many RAW files from respected test sites, converted, processed an printed samples to compare the two cameras.  Maybe I'm strange, but I don't decide on which camera to buy, particularly when switching brands, based on opinions from those who have never used it. YMMV.

Have a great weekend!
