The Apps people have suggested such as Navigon and Tom Tom are really good. And much nicer to use than Google maps.

This is why I purchased Co-Pilot for my Android phone. I live in the Uk and often I found myself somewhere with no data connection. It was fine leaving the house and using google maps to get the route out. Then I'd get to my destination in the middle of nowhere, and not be able to find my way back

I actually purchased Co-Pilot USA & Europe version, so when driving out there, I don't need to activate the expensive data roaming. Works really well. On par with my dedicated tom-tom unit.
