Nikon 50mm f1.8G vs D: DXOmark vs rest of the world?

This has had me perplexed for a while: I've read many posters claims that the f1.8G is significantly sharper and more contrasty than the f1.8D wide open, completely justifying the extra $100. I've also seen sample shots clearly demonstrating this.

But then dxomark shows the two being virtually identical, except for the much higher distortion of the G version here, and slightly higher resolution of the D!: link

In the comparison review the f1.8D wins: link

What happened there? Did they get a bad f1.8G copy?
