T5i live-view auto-focus performance when using older lens (non-STM)

I know that the live-view autofocus speed of the T5i still isn't up to par with the latest mirrorless cameras.  But for me, I think it's ok.  I've only played with it at the store using the 18-55mm STM lens.  I have a T1i, so the live-view autofocus on the T5i would be a nice step up.

I have a couple of Sigma and Tamron lens.  They're not "STM" quality lenses, but they're nice and I'd like to continue to use them.  Does the live-view auto-focus on the T5i work just as quickly with non-STM lens as with STM lenses?  I read that the T5i utilizes a hybrid auto focus system in live-view to make it a bit faster...but does this hybrid system only work with newer lens?
