Thinking of upgrading a T1i to T5i for a trip to Alaska

I own a T1i with kit lens + ef-s 55-250 IS. I've heard the sensor in the new T5i is higher quality and the camera has a much richer feature set. I can grab the new T5i with kit lens for $750 and probably get $150 for my T1i at a toal cost of $600 to me.

Is it worth the upgrade?

If I get the T5i should I only grab the body? Would my T1i kit lens and 55-250 be sufficient? Would using the T1i kit lens hold back the features of the new T5i? This saves me around 100-150 bucks.

Is it not even worth the ~$600 to upgrade, should I just grab a decent wide-angle lens for my current T1i (thinking about that wide open Alaska scenery)?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!  Also let me know if there is any additional information that would be useful in helping guide me to a decision.
