Re: Subjective camera preferences.....
I am a diehard Nikon shooter. It's my camera of preference. However, my newest DSLR is a Pentax, my MFT is a Panny G6, and my three newest P&S are the Oly zx-2 and zx-10 and the Panny LX7.
Nikon lost me to newer DSLR bodies because I did not invest in the DX lenses except the kit lenses and I have three fine FX primes and a wonderful moderate zoomer. And while I have owned many Coolpixes, the ones coming out right now seem hit and miss. This does not diminish Nikon for me. It is just not the right time for one of their cameras.
My perfect camera would have the sharpness of an Oly or Panny, the ergonomics of a Nikon or Pentax or my G6, the facial color of a Nikon, the sky and greens of a Oly, the just right punchy color of a Pentax, the build of an Oly or Pentax.
I still shoot my Nikon 8800, P5000, 7100, and my D70 and D50. And tucked away is the camera that started it all, the venerable 995 and then the 4500. But if I only shot Nikon I would have missed some of my photos I treasure. Sure, my best photos were probably taken with the D70 and D50. They felt so right in my hands and I was shooting so much then. When you shoot that much, you have to get some good and special ones. But with the Panny FZ10 with its poor color and ergonomics, I took some amazing, for me, photos and the sharpest lens on a camera ever is my aging FZ35 with the battery that no long holds a full charge. But it's a pleasure now to take out my Oly zx-2 and appreciate all it has to offer, and it really is a fine camera, or snap a photo of my cats with the wonderful f/1.4 lens of the Panny LX7. Today I was waiting in the exam room for the doc and boldly took out my little xz-10 and took some pictures of the medical center buildings. I could not have done that without a camera that small because odds are I would not have had it in my purse. And if it didn't feel so right in my hands or take such good photos, I probably would not have bothered.
