Read about the basics: shutter speed, aperture, ISO.

Set the camera to M and AFS-C with your 50mm lens and start shooting.

I would recommend setting the camera up to use AF- On button and not the shutter release.

Once set up I find the Dx bodies just get out of my way and are very simple to use. There is complexity available later when or if you need it.
