I started with a G5, then bought an EM5, mostly because I loved my OM2 back in the day. I liked it, but the bizarre menu system annoyed me, especially switching back and forth between it and the intuitive Panasonic menus.

Could you tell us what exactly in the menu of the EM5 was that difficult for you to master...? I own EM5 and I don't feel there is any special problem with the menu... plus Olympus has one of the best together with Canon quick on screen menu as you press the OK...

I don't like Olympus menus. For me they are counter-intuitive. Panasonic menus, for me, are intuitive.

They are some some pretty astonishing examples of dumbfounding user interface choices in Olympus cameras' menus. One of them (and I still can't believe they' haven't corrected it yet since it probably wouldn't be much of a hassle) is the only example of a photography-related double negative I can think of : the option to turn on or off stabilisation in continuous shooting mode. It's called "Burst mode + IS OFF", and then you can choose between "ON" and "OFF", meaning that to actually turn the stabilisation ON in burst mode, you have to select the option "OFF". That's needlessly confusing.

But I don't recall particularly enjoying Panasonic's menus when I used their cameras either.

So that particular "issue", which is already somewhat famous and to which everybody should be able to get used to, and which nobody would change often, could make you not buying a camera with otherwise excellent ergonomics and handling? About every menu system as its issues.

Really, it is more a habit to bash Olympus menus than it is an "issue".
