Any tips for shooting through aquarium glass

Setup: X-E1 with 18-55mm lens in a large building with multiple aquariums with mostly large and slowly moving fish and ocean mammals. Probably pretty dark...

A quick search results in the following:

* use rubber hood that should contact glass to avoid reflection                                                       * shoot perpendicular to glass to avoid refraction (never know what the "glass" is made from...         * no flash                                                                                                                                * use manual mode and maintain min shutter speed; lens wide open or close to it???                      * if AF fails because of glass use manual focus                                                                             * use polarizer to avoid reflections - I am dubious about it because of the additional loss of precious light...

Anything else that I am missing?
