Yea the experts have already replied and mine is underexposed but essentially, you have overexposed it.   The same thing that you faced happened to me and then I just played around with all the parameters till I got something that looked like those moon shots others do.

This is what I followed:- Use M mode

- Use minimum ISO your camera can handle

- Choose an F stop where your lens will be sharp but also not let in too much light

- Adjust shutter speed enough to not have too much shake and but not under-expose like I did (I went wrong here)

I tried to use manual focusing at first but failed - mostly cause i have an LCD and no EVF and I couldn't see it properly with 6x zoom, should have turned that off.  Surprisingly AF locked on pretty quickly though with exposure dialed down.
