Covering the viewfinder

Hi there.

I am new to this forum and completely new to photography (apart from point and pray) so please bear with me. I have just bought a Canon EOS 1100D. I also bought a copy of the "For Dummies" book since I'm a beginner. In the book it says that when shooting without using the viewfinder - in movies, for example - it is necessary to cover the viewfinder to prevent light from entering the camera.

The instructions said that the rubber surround should be removed and that the camera strap that comes with the kit includes a cover for the viewfinder which just slides over it. Firstly, I find removing and replacing the rubber surround is not at all easy and secondly that the cover doesn't fit the viewfinder anyway.

Has anyone else come across this problem and does anyone have a solution?

Many thanks

Hache
