SX40 Black and White
This weekend I got a whole new appreciation for my little SX40. My wife wanted to do some black and white street photos with her 7D and I tagged along but left my 7D in the bag and took my SX40 instead. What a treat!!
The fact that the image displayed in the viewfinder was monochrome really added to the experience. Had I been using the 7D and wanted to use the viewfinder, I'd have had to block out the color in my head. Usually, I really don't care for the EVF on the SX40 (too grainy) but with the monochrome it looked just fine, kind of like those old B/W grainy film images from years past.
I think I got better pictures with the SX40 than I would have been able to get with the 7D. From now on the SX gets the nod for B/W.
