Re: Get the 18-55 Kit . My take

I own both the X-A1 and X-M1 bodies, and do a lot of shooting with Canon and Nikon manual focus lenses, especially long teles that lend themselves to wildlife photography (e.g., 300, 400, 500 and 600mm), since I live in a rural area adjacent to a national park that abounds with game such as bison, elk, coyote, deer and pronghorn antelope. I also enjoy shooting everyday stuff frequently with an array of MF legacy lenses left over from my film days, running the gamut from wideangle, normal, and macro to moderate telephoto.

That said, I heartily agree with the advice that you buy the 18-55 kit zoom along with the XF body, it's that good a lens. Really, I see no reason to make a dichotomy between your collection of MF legacy lenses and a superb, really versatile, reasonably priced (if purchased ALONG with your XF body) 18-55 zoom that has to rank among the very finest available for any APS-C body on the market today. And one that features the bonus of AF and IS.

If you're looking to see examples of what this lens can do in capable hands, have a look at photographer Jim Radcliffe's boxedlight.com Website. He has work posted from an array of cameras and lenses he's shot with over the years; but above all, check out his most recent stuff, captured with his new X-T1 and predominantly the 18-55 kit lens.
