My friend does food for a living - has for many, many years - now semi-retired. Makes $60,000 a year working 3 months a year (cook books now as opposed to magazines earlier). He has tons of lighting equipment and uses a Nikon D2x and Nikon D300. As food rarely goes bigger than a full page, that's all he needs. Amazing photographer with a degree from Brooks. It is NOT the equipment - it is the skill. There are dozens of tricks. Good luck.
