Re: Fisheye on A7?

Hi EvilKarma,

I'm PanoTwin Markus and my brother and I both use the Samyang (Bower, Rokinon, Walimex) 8mm fisheye lens on the Sony ILCE-7. It is an E-Mount lens. I think this combination delivers really great results. One small thing however is that you need to shave the plastic lens hood, because the lens is calculated as a diagonal fish eye for the APS-C sensors of the NEX series.

For more information on this you can visit the PanoTwins blog: http://www.panotwins.de/technical/images-of-shaved-samyang-bower-rokinon-walimex-8mm-fisheye-lens-attached-to-sony-a7-ilce-7/

Here are some sample links to panoramas taken with the lens on the Sony ILCE-7: http://www.panotwins.de/spherical-panoramas/sculpture-umschreibung-inside/ http://www.panotwins.de/spherical-panoramas/luitpoldpark-in-february-high-pole-shot/ http://www.panotwins.de/spherical-panoramas/bavarian-ministry-of-justice-atrium/

When shooting with this lens four shots easily cover the whole sphere. See a small making of article on my Google+ Profile:

The big PROs of the lens are:

  • Small and lightweight
  • Almost no chromatic aberration
  • Very large field of view when mounted on a full frame camera (over 185° on the long side of the sensor)

I do not find any cons

Hope this helps,
PanoTwin Markus
