Macro lens for close-range toddler shooting?

I started with a D800 + Sigma 35mm/1.4 for toddler shooting at home. I chose 35mm because I thought it would be a good general purpose lens.

Then I rented the 105mm/2.8 VR Micro (Minimum Focus Distance MFD = 0.3 meter) just for fun, I was thrilled by the background blur and being able to fill the frame with only the face. However, it is rather long for indoor use.

Then I rented the 70-200mm/2.8 VR II because I thought it would be more flexible. But I'm disappointed by its MFD = 1.4 meters, which prevents many of my shots.

So which (Nikon) lenses are left?

  • 70-200mm f/4: MFD = 1 meter, not close enough
  • 85mm/1.8G or 1.4G: MFD = 0.8 meter, not close enough
  • 24-70mm/2.8G: MFD = 0.4 meter, chromatic aberration seems to be a problem
  • 60mm/f2.8 Micro: MFD = 0.2 meter --> could be nice

Currently it seems like the 105mm or 60mm is the way to go.
